Fireside Music Chat with Dave Harris April 15, 2023
We’re proud to announce our first Fireside Music Chat in almost three years!
Dave Harris, bluesman extraordinaire, will be joining us for 90 minutes of music, history, and stories on April 15th at 1:30pm to 3:00pm.
He’ll be guiding us through pre-WW2 blues and its influences on big band swing music, and he may take us into post-war jump blues and early rock and roll if time permits. If you like swing dancing, you’ll love this deep dive into the music that shaped our dance!
DAVE HARRIS
Dave Harris has been a staple of the Victoria music scene since the 1970s. Perhaps you saw him with the Flying Saucers at Swan’s, as a one-man band busking in the Inner Harbour, or playing with a rotating cast of friends at the James Bay School park through COVID times. He’s been a guest lecturer at UVic for their History of Blues and History of Rock and Roll classes, and he’s published an extensively-researched book about the history of one man bands, available here.
Tickets will be on sale on March 18 at noon, and are expected to sell out - get yours early to be sure you can attend!
SDAV’s Fireside Music Chats are a chance for our favourite musicians to take us behind the scenes of their creativity, influences, and interests in an intimate setting. They’ll bring stories, favourite songs, and anecdotes from their careers, showing us their perspective on the music we love. Think of it as a private concert with more than just music!
Location
This is a non-dancing event, and will take place in a private house.
